Privacy Policy
Keel is a screen-time app. It needs to see how you use your phone, so it matters where that information goes. The short answer: nowhere.
Who we are
Keel is made by Konio Softworks. If you have a question about this policy, write to schiduluca@gmail.com.
What Keel reads on your phone
To show you your screen time, Keel reads information about how you use your phone. This stays on the device.
- Android. With your permission (Usage access), Keel reads which apps you opened, for how long, and when. It stores a history of this in a local database that only Keel can read. It also reads app names and icons so it can show them back to you.
- iPhone. Keel uses Apple’s Screen Time framework. Apple keeps this data on the device, and Keel can show it but cannot send it anywhere.
- What you set. Your budgets, limits, goals, the kind of time you assign to an app, and your Focus sessions are saved on the phone too.
Keel cannot read what is inside other apps: no messages, no web pages, no passwords.
Optional permissions
These are only used if you turn the matching feature on, and you can withdraw each one in your phone’s settings.
| Permission | Why Keel asks |
|---|---|
| Usage access (Android) | To see your app usage. Without it Keel can only show sample data. |
| Screen Time access (iPhone) | To show your usage and to block the apps you choose in Hard Focus. |
| Notifications | For gentle reminders when you pass a limit, and a morning note. |
| Notification access (Android) | So a Focus session can snooze notifications from Social and Scroll apps. Keel does not store or read their contents. |
| Accessibility service (Android) | Only for Hard Focus. Keel looks at which app is in front so it can cover a blocked app. It doesn’t record that, and nothing leaves your phone. |
| Device administrator (Android) | Only for Hard Focus, so Keel can’t be uninstalled to end a block early. |
Anonymous usage sharing (Android)
The Android app can send anonymous counts of which parts of Keel get used, such as starting a Focus session, to Google Analytics for Firebase. This helps us see which features people use and where the app is confusing.
- It never includes which apps you use, their names, or how long you use anything.
- It is on by default. You can turn it off any time under Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage. Turning it off also deletes the identifier created for your install.
- Google processes this data and may collect an app-instance identifier, basic device information, diagnostics and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Keel does not use the advertising ID and has removed that permission.
- See Google’s Privacy Policy for how Google handles analytics data.
The iPhone app has no analytics, no server and no tracking.
Who we share data with
Nobody, apart from the optional Android analytics above. We don’t sell your data, rent it, or use it for advertising.
Deleting your data
Under Settings → Erase all Keel data, Keel removes your history, categories, limits and goals from the phone. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored. Because there is no account and no server copy, there is nothing else for us to delete.
Children
Keel is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and, for meaningful changes, say so in the app’s release notes.
